Scotland

It’s been almost a month and a half since we were in the country that extends to the northern third of the island of Great Britain – Scotland. We visited a lot of beautiful places and I would like to introduce you to some of them.

After an extremely long jouney in the coach and a ferry, we came to a small town called Alnwick where the Alnwick castle, the castle of Harry Potter is situated. The atmosphere of the town was charming as well as was the castle. We then continued to Portobello where we could have a walk along the beach and pick some shells as souvenirs. And this day we ended with meeting our host families.

The next day, we visited Rosslyn Chapel which was prominently featured in Dan Brown’s bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code. Then we moved to the Athens of the North – to Edinburgh to visit the Edinburgh castle and do some shopping on the Princes Street. In the evening we returned to our host families.

We spent our  last day in Scotland exploring the Scottish nature. Firstly, we visited Glasgow where we could see the river Clyde. Afterwards, we proceeded to the Loch Lomond, Wallace memorial, which commemorates William Wallace, a 13th century Scottish hero, and to the Falkirk Wheel.

On the following day we said ”goodbye” to Scotland, moved to Newcastle upon Tyne and took a ferry to Amsterdam which we visited on another day. In Amsterdam, Venice of the North, we experienced a tradional  cruise through its canals and we also went to Zaanse Schans where we were astonished by the collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses. In the evening, it was time to get on our coach and to travel home. The entire trip to Scotland was amazing because we had the chance to explore a new country, practise the English language and to  get to know new people. I think everyone looks forward to subsequent trips.
